Traditional Co-Pay Plans
Traditional co-pay plans generally have set co-pay amounts for services, such as doctor visits and prescription drugs. These plans tend to offer more predictability for out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Health Savings Accounts: HSA’s
HSA’s may be a good fit for those who don’t mind paying a higher deductible in exchange for lower premiums, along with some tax-deductions on certain medical services. HSA’s can offer more financial flexibility since unspent contributions roll over to the next year for covered medical expenses.
When money is tight, you don’t want to pay for coverage you don’t need. Catastrophic health insurance coverage may be for you.
Catastrophic insurance plans are designed to offer protection in the event of catotrophic injuries and illnesses. Typically, these are high-deductible plans with lower monthly premiums. If you’re healthy, you save money. But if something catastrophic happens, you’re still covered.
Designed for healthy individuals and families, short-term policies can provide an affordable safety net for those who are transitioning between jobs, starting a new job but aren’t yet eligible for health insurance coverage by their company, on strike, on military discharge, entering early retirement, and recent college graduates and others losing dependent status. Most short-term medical plans last one to six months and can be renewed for a total of 36 months. The application process is simple and policies can be issued the next day.
Having a short-term health insurance plan in place while you wait for other coverage to begin provides a seamless transition, and if you are denied for your standard policy, you still have basic health coverage through your short-term plan. Surgery, hospital care, emergency services, diagnostic tests, prescription drugs, follow-up office visits and even limited mental health care could be included within a short-term health policy.
Low premiums are an important perk to a short-term health insurance policy. Given the low-risk characteristics of these plans, the cost of short-term health insurance is often low since insurers expect few claims. With some short-term policies, you pay a deductible on a per-injury or per-illness basis. After you’ve met your deductible, most insurers will pay some portion. Many short-term plans will allow you to pay your premiums up-front (often with a discount for doing so), or on a monthly basis.
Be warned that all short-term policies have very specific limitations and exclusions, so read the policy carefully before you buy. It’s important to answer the health questions on the application honestly. Otherwise, you could wind up with a denial of any treatment related to your pre-existing condition.
Dental insurance is designed to pay a portion of the costs associated with dental care. J.P. Kush & Associates offers several types of individual, family, and group dental plans through a wide range of insurance carriers.
Typically, indemnity dental policies (or sometimes called true dental insurance) allows you to see any dentist you want who accepts insurance. J.P. Kush & Associates also works with companies that provide preferred provider organization (PPO), or in-network, dental plans, and dental health managed organizations (DHMO) in which you are assigned to an in-network dentist or in-network dental office and must stay within that network to receive your dental benefits. PPO’s and DMHO’s are available at lower rates for those willing to see a more limited number of dental professionals.
Vision insurance policies typically cover routine eye exams and other procedures, usually providing specified dollar amounts or discounts for the purchase of eyeglasses and contact lenses. Some vision insurance policies also offer discounts on refractive surgery, such as LASIK and PRK.
Medicare Supplement Insurance
Medicare alone will not cover all of the costs of doctor visits and medications seniors typically require. Medicare supplement insurance, such as Medicare A-L plans and Medicare Part D prescription coverage, and Medicare Advantage plans, change every year as do employer-sponsored and individual health insurance plans.
